Shamatha is the fundamental Buddhist meditation practice. The torrent of impulse-driven thought is gradually calmed, giving rise to the mental clarity through which the nature of reality can be perceived. In this workshop we will cover the basic elements of Shamatha meditation, discuss its place in the broad spectrum of Buddhist practice, and engage in short sessions of the practice itself. If you wish to use a meditation pillow, you should bring your own.
